Semitic Studies: Professors and Academic Staff

At a Glance

Arabic Studies is concerned with the spoken language and written texts of the Arabic-speaking world. At Freie Universität Arabic Studies is a literary discipline that includes such subjects as Arabic poetry and prose literature of the pre-Islamic period to the present, as well as religious, philosophical, historical and geographical literature of Islamic culture and Jewish and Christian literature in Arabic.

Semitic Studies includes research in the areas of Semitic languages, cultures, and the history of the Semitic peoples of the Middle East. Research priorities for the Semitic Studies department at Freie Universität of Berlin include Ethiopian, Aramaic, and Hebraic Studies and Semitic inscriptions (Epigraphics).
