Globalizing Gender and Diversity Studies

Public Conference on November 18 and 19, 2015, at Freie Universität Berlin

The 3rd FU-KoreaNet Conference, to be held November 18 and 19, 2015, at Freie Universität, will address the topic "Globalizing Gender and Diversity Studies." The participating scholars are from Korea, Japan, Mexico, and Germany. They will analyze teaching projects and research issues in Asia, Europe, and Latin America from a transregional perspective. The conference goal is to discuss specific aspects and problems of gender studies within an interdisciplinary framework and to develop concepts for future transregional cooperation. The conference language is English. It is public, and admission is free.

Over a two-day period, the conference will address four main topics and hold a roundtable discussion on Gender Studies and Gender Equalities at Universities. The main topics are: globalizing gender and democracy, research on sexualities, representation of gender in mass media, and social inequalities and feminization of migration.

The 3rd FU-KoreaNet Conference is a continuation of a conference series initiated in 2013 by Freie Universität Berlin and its five Korean partner universities – Ewha Womans University, Korea University, Sogang University, Seoul National University, and Yonsei University. It is held annually and alternates between Berlin and Seoul.

Gender studies has a long tradition at Freie Universität Berlin. It is represented in many disciplines with a broad theoretical, thematic, and methodological spectrum. The internationalization of research is a major focus as are involvement in academic reflection about gender equality policies at universities and transdisciplinary gender studies.
