Crossing Intermedial Borders with Comics

International Conference at Freie Universität Berlin November 27 and 28, 2009

The medium of comics is the focus of an international conference to be held on November 27 and 28 at Freie Universität. Scholars from Japan, France, and Germany will meet to discuss cultural and social boundaries in the medium of comics. Close attention will be paid to the interplay between comic art, film, and literature. The event, entitled Comics - Zum Stand der kulturellen Legitimität eines intermedialen Mediums is open to the public and free of charge. Some of the meetings will be in English.

The participants will explore various forms of graphic storytelling, the transfer of literary works into graphic narratives, and the filmic interpretation of existing comic novels, for example, the graphic novel Sin City.
