№ 316/2008 from Oct 20, 2008
During the winter semester 2008/2009, there will be one visiting lectureship in Germany through Eurolecture – European Programme for Innovative Academic Teaching. It will be at the Institute for Theater Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, under the direction of Professor Dr. Doris Kolesch. The visiting lecturer is the artist and cultural studies scholar, Dr. Brandon LaBelle, from the University of Copenhagen. Eurolecture is a program in Germany established to support international interconnectedness and innovations in teaching. The lectureship is financed by the non-profit foundation, Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S.
Dr. Brandon LaBelle is an experienced sound artist and scholar in the field of sound studies. At Freie Universität he will be teaching seminars on "Male Voices" and "Spatial Practice/Bodies in Space," both dealing with issues in sound culture and cultural differences. He will be co-teaching a seminar with Prof. Dr. Kolesch, called "Acoustic Territories: Wie klingt Europa?" This class will focus on the connection between art and science and will require independent research by students. It will provide an opportunity to test innovative teaching methods and to discuss Kolesch's studies on voice and auditory perception directly with students.
