International Summer University
Freie Universität Berlin International Summer University FUBiS accepting applications for summer term
№ 68/2008 from Mar 14, 2008
The Freie Universität Berlin International Summer University (FUBiS) takes place in two terms from May 31 – July 12 and from July 19 – August 16. The course program offers German language classes on five different levels of proficiency as well as about 30 subject courses on various topics.
FUBiS is an intensive, academic program and fully authorized to grant credits. Most home institutions accept FUBiS credits toward their degree requirements. The two summer terms run for 4 to 6 weeks; each can be completed separately. The tuition ranges between 800 and 2,000 euros per course and includes extracurricular activities. Registrations are still possible.
The summer program consists of intensive and semi-intensive German language classes at different proficiency levels as well as Business German classes. In addition, FUBiS offers subject classes in history, art history, literature, philosophy, cultural studies, environmental law, and political science. These classes explore and analyze Berlin, Germany, and Europe from a variety of perspectives and are held mostly in English by distinguished German and international faculty.
Study visits to museums and memorials as well as to political and cultural institutions are an integral part of all courses. In addition, FUBiS offers field trips along the former Berlin Wall, to the Berlin Reichstag, or on a riverboat tour through downtown Berlin.
The FUBiS summer program was established in 1997 and was augmented with a winter term in 2007. Freie Universität Berlin is home to approximately 34,000 students (16 % international students).
