Die Modulprüfung kann ENTWEDER im Seminar ODER im Grundkurs (in diesem Wintersemester "Das koloniale Hispanoamerika" von Prof. Dr. Böttcher) abgelegt werden.

    Die Veranstaltung bietet Bachelorstudierenden eine Einführung in die Geschichte Lateinamerikas von den Unabhängigkeitsbewegungen im 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. Gemeinsam werden exemplarische Text- und Bildquellen im Original bzw. in deutscher Übersetzung gelesen und aus verschiedenen Perspektiven interpretiert. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf globalhistorischen Ansätzen. Im Besonderen werden wir uns verschiedenen Revolutionen, Migrationsbewegungen und Formen der Transkulturation in Lateinamerika widmen. In diesem Zusammenhang vermittelt das Seminar erste Einblicke in die wesentlichen geschichtswissenschaftlichen Theorien, Methoden und Vorgehensweisen. Darüber hinaus werden der Umgang mit unterschiedlichen Quellenarten und Recherchetechniken geübt.

    This course offers an introduction to development economics, with a regional focus on Latin America. Development economics studies the processes of economic growth, poverty, inequality, structural change, and political and social transformation in low- and middle-income countries. The course language is English.

    This seminar is part of the Module: "Development theories and concepts" and its goal is to dive deep into Latin American development perspectives and modern case studies of developmental policies. In this seminar the students will develop their analytical and presentation skills, as well as their skills on how to interpret results from development economic research.

    Comments

    The geopolitical shift in international politics and the hegemonic orientation of US foreign policy under the second Trump administration pose new challenges for Latin American countries. The seminar aims to shed light on the search for answers in the region, which often relate to escaping the effects of great power competition. Although the foreign policy maxims of Latin American states for shaping the international order are primarily determined by the overarching foreign policy goal of the countries in the region to secure their autonomy, the concrete form they take varies according to national interests and economic opportunities. The individual states pursue different strategies, ranging from close ties to the Western hegemon to identification with positions from the global South. It remains unclear how the largely passive acceptance of international reality can be overcome and how the region can gain a greater role in shaping international politics. The seminar will address questions regarding the Latin American understanding of multilateralism and multipolarity, the use of the region's natural resources for an independent political role as well as the search for formats of international integration in the BRICS+ format and sub-regional cooperation.
