The students know the basic principles of paleobotany and can apply them. Contents: Evolution and paleobiogeography, vegetation types, pollen and spores, identification exercises, microscopic analysis and documentation, principles and interpretation of pollen diagrams, application to stratigraphy, ecology and paleoclimate research. The focus is on analyzing and understanding biodiversity in spatiotemporal change and identifying and describing the most common biomes. Methodological and creative skills for problem solving, knowledge generation and transfer are developed using case studies.
