This course will look at different aspects of Comparative Semitics (such as phonology, morphology, syntax or classification), as attested in several Northwest Semitic inscriptions. We will focus on Ugaritic inscriptions primarily in terms of its value as evidence for Comparative Semitics. This course will start with learning basic grammar of Ugaritic, and then analyze texts from various genres such as letters, myths, and incantations.
