PS-Levels of Linguistic Analysis II: Lexical Semantics

This seminar approaches lexical semantics, i.e., word meaning, from a corpus linguistic perspective. At first, we will recapitulate the theoretical concepts (e.g., sense relations, conceptualization, metaphor) and get to know some methods used in corpus linguistics. In a next phase, we will read papers dealing with different aspects of lexical semantics. In addition to analyzing the structure of research papers and evaluating their conclusions, we will use our methodological knowledge to replicate their research design. At the end of the seminar, you are expected to submit a portfolio including your own corpus-based research.
