Putting Learners and Teachers at the Centre of Foreign Language Education, Towards a Vision of Positive Foreign Language Education

Mental health challenges are a growing concern for many children and teenagers, as well as teachers and parents. In today’s fast-paced, digital world, these struggles are becoming more pervasive, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As a result, mental health has emerged as a critical topic in educational settings, including in English language teaching, where fostering emotional well-being can significantly impact both learning outcomes and overall (language) development.

One of the most effective ways to combat and prevent mental health issues – ranging from minor challenges to more serious disorders – is by engaging students in meaningful conversations around mental health while simultaneously equipping them with the tools to strengthen their resilience, coping strategies, and overall well-being.

Building on this premise, this course delves deeply into the intersection of mental health education, positive psychology/education, and English language teaching, particularly in the context of the digital media and AI-driven age. It aims to bridge these fields, offering participants practical, evidence-based methods, strategies, and materials that can be effectively integrated into the classroom to support mental health and foster positive learning experiences. Through hands-on projects and collaborative activities, participants will gain the skills and confidence needed to apply these concepts in their future teaching contexts.
