Freie Universität Berlin is a full-spectrum university offering more than 150 different academic programs in a broad range of disciplines. The university performed successfully three times in the German government’s Excellence program. As a result of the latest competition, the university is receiving long-term funding as part of the Berlin University Alliance (with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin). As an international network university, it has established offices abroad in Cairo, Eastern Europe (Tbilisi, Georgia), New Delhi, and São Paulo. The liaison office in São Paulo was inaugurated in 2010 in order to increase academic and scientific cooperation between Freie Universität and universities and research centers in Brazil and South America. The primary concern of the São Paulo Office is to attract promising talents from the region for a study or research stay in Berlin, to facilitate scholarly cooperation, and to identify suitable instruments for cooperation in student exchange.
