The ZDS students are enrolled at both Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität and therefore able to attend courses in their respective field of study at both universities. In addition, they attend an interdisciplinary seminar "Germany before and after the Reunification" which is specially designed for them. In the framework of this seminar, knowledge about actual developments and their preconditions is conveyed to them by academic lectures of scholars from both participating universities and numerous visits of relevant Berlin institutions and memorial places. Thereby topics like memory culture, participation, welfare state, institutions of the federal German democracy, EU integration et al. are in the focus. Actual challenges are taken into account, too. So in 2016 a visit to the commissioner of integration and the refugee coordinator of a Berlin district were part of the seminar program.
