Mr. Gan's talk based on Max Weber's thesis that the development of capitalism has been fostered by the reformation. It was followed by a lively discussion, involving not only ZDS members, but also other scientists from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Film Academy and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
The 'salon' was concluded by Professor Lian Yu-ru's (political science) report about her observations during the German Bundestag elections 2017 and German media's news coverage regarding China which, according to Ms. Lian, ranges "from critical to negative". Her statements caused a lively discussion, too.
This time, the 'salon' served also as send-off for Professor Gan Chaoying who recently had retired as member of the Law School of Peking University. Professor Huang Liaoyu thanked him warmly for his engagement for the ZDS.
