Throwing down the Gauntlet: Intellectual Polemic in the Public Eye of Late Enlightenment Germany
Jonathan Blake Fine received his Ph.D. in German from the University of California, Irvine, where he wrote his dissertation on the culture of public debate in the German Enlightenment. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in comparative literature from New York University. He has taught at Gettysburg College and is particularly interested in intellectual history and the literature of the Goethezeit. His current project investigates the development and eventual downfall of a culture of public philosophical debate at the end of the German Enlightenment.
