Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan
Through the interlibrary loan service, the Central Library can obtain materials from other libraries in Berlin, Germany, or abroad. Only materials that are not available in the FU libraries’ collection can be ordered via interlibrary loan.
A valid library card is required for using the interlibrary loan service, as it is needed for login (home library = FU Berlin). Interlibrary loan requests are submitted online via the portal of the Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV).
In the Primo library portal, you will find links to interlibrary loan services below the search results list.
Costs
-
For FU staff, interlibrary loan requests are free of charge.
-
FU students pay €1.50 for the delivery of one item (per volume or article) within the German interlibrary loan system. You will be informed in advance about any additional costs (e.g., copying fees for extensive articles, insurance for valuable books, costs in international interlibrary loan, etc.).
-
External users pay a fee of €1.50 for each interlibrary loan request. You will be informed in advance about any additional costs (e.g., copying fees for extensive articles, insurance for valuable books, costs in international interlibrary loan, etc.).
Delivery Time
Most requested materials are delivered within one to two weeks. In some cases, delivery may be shorter or significantly longer.
Loan Period
Loan conditions and periods are determined by the lending library and may vary. Renewals are not possible.
The loan period may be shortened if the lending library recalls the item early, provided that the loan period stated in the pickup notification is at least four weeks.
Pickup
All interlibrary loans must be collected from the Central Library and returned there as well.
