Research Matchmaking and Beyond: A Recap of Our Recent Events
The summer months from June to September were a whirlwind of activity for the Cairo Office, filled with exciting collaborations and informative events. Here's a recap of some of our highlights:
- German Science Day & German-Egyptian Collaboration in Zoonotic Disease Research
(June 05-06):
We had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Isabelle Ruhnke, Director of the Institute of the Poultry Diseases at the School of Veterinary Medicine of Freie Universität Berlin on her first visit to Egypt. Visits to institutions like Cairo University and the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute highlighted a critical point: Zoonotic diseases reveal the deep interconnections between human health, animal health and the environment. This year’s German Science Day organized by the DAAD Cairo office further showcased the immense interest of the Egyptian PhD and postdoc candidates in FU Berlin. - Egyptian-German Research Matchmaking Event (September 17-18):
The event, organized by the liaison offices of Freie Universität Berlin, Philipp University of Marburg, and Technische Universität Berlin and funded by COSIMENA/DAAD brought together researchers from Egypt and Germany to explore potential collaborations. The overwhelming turnout demonstrated the strong demand for such partnerships. - "What went wrong with Islamic Historiography?" (September 23):
Prof. Dr. Florian Zemmin from FU Berlin delivered a captivating lecture as part of the OIB/DAAD COSIMENA talk series, sparking insightful discussions among attendees. - DAAD Study Information Day (September 24):
The DAAD Cairo Office organized the 18th annual Study Information Day for students from German schools in Egypt. FU Berlin conducted sessions on general information, the study of law as well as the study of bioinformatics/informatics attracting significant interest from students. - Parents Information Evening (September 25):
For the first time, a dedicated evening for parents of prospective graduates from German schools in Cairo was organized. Representatives from German and Egyptian universities addressed their questions about post-graduation options. - Welcoming Event (September 26):
We concluded the month with a welcoming event for students from FU Berlin, Uni Marburg, and other German universities studying or interning in Egypt. The event provided a great opportunity for networking and cultural exchange.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all our partners, the dedicated DAAD Cairo team, and the participants who made these events a success. We look forward to many more fruitful collaborations in the future.
