Part I: Study and Research opportunities at the Institute of Pharmacy of Freie Universität Berlin
Wednesday, 7th July 2021, 10AM - 12PM

Have you finished your bachelor of pharmacy and are looking for opportunities to continue your postgraduate studies in Germany - preferably in English? Or are you already done with your Masters or PhD and are dreaming of pursuing a research career at one of Germany’s universities of excellence?

The Cairo Liaison office of Freie Universitaet Berlin is delighted to invite you to register for our upcoming online workshop that will take place on Wednesday, 7th July 2021. In the first part Prof. Burkhard Kleuser, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology will give you an insight on the postgraduate study programs and research opportunities that are offered at the Institute of pharmacy. For those interested in doing their Master’s degree in pharmacy, the workshop is designed to shed light on FU Berlin’s Master’s program in pharmaceutical research. Under excellent scientific conditions this master’s program prepares students for research and development activities in the pharmaceutical industry or in scientific institutions.

By attending this workshop you will also be informed about the available research areas of FU Berlin and the possible research careers for pharmacy graduates in Germany. Furthermore, Dr. Ahmad Hasan, a current research associate at the Institute of Pharmacy, FU Berlin, will shed light on his career path in Germany and how he finally became part of the Institute of Pharmacy of FU Berlin.  Dr. Mohamed Salem, Lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Menoufia University and DAAD Alumnus will share the Do’s and Don’t’s on how to successfully approach a professor at a German university.

Part II: Expanding pharmaceutical research for drug discovery explorations
Wednesday, 7th July 2021, 1pm - 5pm

The world faces many health challenges that threaten lives and lead to huge economic burden. Understanding these health challenges in detail using available rapidly developing research tools is a very helpful strategy to identify potential pharmacological targets. In the present workshop, we will discuss cardiorenal and metabolic disorders as an example of these health challenges. Moreover, we will elucidate the molecular mechanisms behind such disorders including epigenetics. Omics, as a comprehensive state-of-the-art approach in research, will be discussed with emphasis on its role in understanding the molecular mechanisms behind different diseases and the discovery of pharmacological targets such as sphingolipids.

To be able to participate in the second part of this workshop you need to be a Master student or higher with a strong motivation and interest or experience in the following topics:

  1. Sphingolipids, epigenetics and pharmacological targets - Prof. Dr. Burkhard Kleuser
  2. Cardiorenal and metabolic disorders - Dr. Ahmed Hasan
  3. The era of "Omics" in pharmaceutical research - Dr. Mohamed Salem

To guarantee an interactive nature of this workshop only a limited number of applicants will be accepted. Make sure to thoroughly fill out the registration form and to clearly state your motivation and research background to increase your chances of attending this unique workshop. Outstanding candidates who have already finished their PhD and are looking for a postdoc opportunity in one of the above mentioned topics will also have a chance to receive a direct consultation on their research opportunities at Freie Universität Berlin by Prof. Kleuser.
