In July 2017, the newspaper “Welt” published an article about the Brazilian Burle Marx and his connection with the Freie Universität Berlin.

A stay in Berlin related to his studies became a significant moment in the life of the Brazilian landscape gardener and architect. It was through the Botanic Garden of Freie Universität Berlin with its tropical plants that he learned to love and appreciate the Brazilian botany. It awakened in him the wish to become a landscape gardener - Nowadays he is known as one of the most famous of the 20^th century.

Besides the famous pavement of the promenade in Copacabana, gardens in Belo Horizonte and Brasília as well as the roof garden of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro are part of his work. However, his work is not limited to this field as he discovered numerous new plants which were named after him.

In Berlin you can see his work in an exposition entitled “Tropische Moderne” until the 3^rd of October in the art gallery of Deutsche Bank.
