Urbanization will be subject of the German-Brazilian Dialogue of Science, Research and Innovation, November 29 and 30, São Paulo

Under the heading "The city of tomorrow – tackling urban challenges and opportunities" the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH-SP) will organize the 5th German-Brazilian Dialogue of Science, Research and Innovation in the auditorium of the Municipal Chamber of São Paulo, on 29th and 30th November. The event is inspired by the questions of urbanization that were captured during the German-Brazilian intergovernmental consultation in August 2015. The Freie Universität Berlin will be represented in the program with a lecture given by Prof. Dr. Sahar Sodoudi (working group Urban Climate/Department of Earth Sciences).
Besides the DWIH-SP, the event will also be organized by the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp), the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the Parliament School of the municipality of São Paulo and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany (AA).
The rates of urbanization in Brazil (85%) and Germany (74%) are – internationally compared – very high. This creates great opportunities for economic development as well as significant challenges for social and ecological sustainability in both countries. To this end there will be three panels in which not only scientists, but also experts and executives with practical experience will take part: "Urban planning and management" and "Water treatment and handling of resources of renewable energies in agglomeration areas". The event will be concluded by a more general panel titled "Urban challenges and chances – Contributions to the German-Brazilian platform for sustainable cities", that aims at collecting new ideas and reviewing the contents of the previous panels. After the presentations and contributions of the moderators the audience and speakers will have the opportunity to take part in a final discussion.
The panels and discussions will be in English with Portuguese translation. The participation is free of charge and requires prior enrollment.
