Event: “From Socionatures to Humanoid Robots: Transdisciplinary Perspectives on the Relations between Humans and Non-Humans” in São Paulo

Jul 30, 2019 | 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM

We are living in increasingly technological times in which humanoid robots are gaining agency in social life. This is why we want to discuss from different scientific perspectives how relations between humans and non-humans are defined, negotiated and transformed. This debate, which is open to the public, will take place on July 30th at the Goethe Institut of São Paulo.

Organized by the Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) along with Mecila Maria Sibylla Merian International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America (funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research – BMBF), the event also has the support of the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH São Paulo).

The objective of the event is to discuss how human and natural sciences are approaching the complex interactions between humans and non-humans through transdisciplinary research on technology and post-humanity.

International expertise – artificial intelligence in human and non-human relations

The presentations from Prof. Astrid Ulloa (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), Prof. Christoph Benzmüller (Freie Universität Berlin) and Prof. Laymert Santos (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) will be commented by Dr. Maya Manzi, Mecila Postdoctoral Researcher, and the debate will be moderated by Prof. Barbara Göbel (Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut & Freie Universität Berlin).

The event will bring to the fore and explore the main scientific innovations regarding humanoid prototypes, focusing human and non-human experiences, as well as the ethical and political implications surrounding this topic.

Language: English and Portuguese (40 headsets for simultaneous translation will be provided)

The event is open for the public and there is no need for previous subscriptions

You can download the event’s folder and learn a little more about our participants. We will publish updates about the schedule also on the event’s page on Mecila’s Facebook.
