Webinar series "Careers outside Academia"

At-risk and displaced scholars are invited to apply by 15 January 2021.

News from Dec 10, 2020

AiS webinar series "Careers outside Academia" will consist of two short webinars, which will take place on 5 and 12 February 2021. Each webinar session will include a preparatory e-learning module of about one hour to be completed before the online meeting.

The first webinar, titled “Career strategies and development planning outside academia”, aims to help participants to assess their current position and career options beyond a classical academic track, reflect on their strengths and learning needs, identify career goals outside academia and develop a road map for achieving them in the individual setting.

The second webinar “Applying for jobs outside academia” offers practical guidance on job applications outside universities and public sector research institutions. It addresses key issues, such as job search, approaching potential employers, writing a letter of motivation, preparing a non-academic CV and tips for job interviews.

To apply, please send to AiS your most recent academic CV and a short letter of motivation (max. 250 words), specifying your current position, work experiences outside university (if any) and a short self-assessment of your prospects for a career beyond academia. Applications should be sent in PDF format to ais@fu-berlin.de with a subject line: Application – Webinars "Careers outside Academia".

If selected for participation, you will be expected to commit to the both webinars.

Applications are accepted until 15 January 2021. The webinar series is open to at-risk and displaced scholars based in Germany, Jordan and Lebanon.
