News from Mar 24, 2022
For many Syrian refugee women and female heads of households, life is a daily struggle. They are impacted by unemployment and their participation in the labor market is low. For those who have managed to secure non-formal employment, many are struggling to maintain a source of income, particularly since the pandemic.
Drawing on the experiences of Syrian refugee women in the MENA region, this webinar organized by the Columbia Global Center Amman, invites experts from the humanitarian sector and academia to share insights and perspectives on women’s economic empowerment through lifting barriers to their employment. Speakers will examine the impact of policy decisions on livelihood opportunities and the limited effects of investments and policies intended to lead to job creation.
Some of the questions the panelists will address:
- What are similar gender and livelihood trends for Syrian refugees across the region?
- What has been the impact of the pandemic on the livelihood opportunities for Syrian refugee women?
- What are some key recommendations for policymakers to facilitate women's livelihoods access and programs in the region?
- How can we effectively include refugee women in the policymaking processes affecting their livelihoods?
- What lies ahead for Syrian refugee women - prospects, hopes, initiatives, programs, and current or needed policy shifts?
