AiS Training: Career Strategies Within and Beyond Academia

Taking an international perspective, the training aims to help displaced and at-risk scholars to assess their current position in Germany and reflect their career goals. It provides an overview of the German research and innovation system and addresses both the opportunities and challenges associated with consolidating an academic or research career in Germany. It also raises strategic issues in career development, such as intersectoral mobility. Overall, the training is designed to facilitate career decision-making in a highly competitive work environment characterised by project funding and temporary employment contracts. 

Target Group 

Displaced and at-risk scholars at the postdoctoral level.

Methods 

This compact, yet highly interactive workshop employs theoretical input, plenary discussions, individual and small group work, experience sharing, coaching elements and expert advice. It is limited to 12 participants and will be presented in English. 

Trainer 

Anke Soemer has worked in science management for over 20 years and is an expert in research and transfer. At the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, she is a Senior Advisor in the Presidential Department with a focus on research strategy and policy. Previously, she was head of the Departement for Young Scientists of the Max Planck Gesellschaft. Anke Soemer studied Public Administration and Law at the Universities of Konstanz and Ottawa and earned her doctorate at the Technical University of Munich. She is a certified Business Trainer & Coach (dvct) and supports organizations and researchers in strategy processes, research planning and transfer. 

The training is organized by AiS in collaboration with BCGE and held by a trainer of academicfutures.
