AiS & BCGE Panel “Doing research in times of crisis: displaced scholars, dangerous field work, and the role of the university. A view from Berlin”

Deutscher Orientalistentag,  September, 12, 3-4:30 pm at Freie Universität in Berlin-Dahlem, Fabeckstraße 23-25, Rost- and Silberlaube, Room: Beirut

News from Sep 08, 2022

The panel discusses different Berlin-based university strategies that have been established in response to the increase of violent conflicts, persisting authoritarianism and the rise of populist governments and movements, as well as encroachments on academic freedom. It highlights the politics of hosting at-risk researchers by taking Academics in Solidarity, a transnational peer-to-peer mentoring project, as an example.

It presents Freie Universität’s Strategy on Internationalization and Academic Freedom as a tool to renegotiate partnership relations in time of crisis, and it presents the Berlin Center for Global Engagement and its strategy to strengthen research collaboration with the Global South.
