Panel Discussion: Long-term support of refugee and displaced scientists: the power of mentorship
This webinar took place on September 30, 2021.
The Webinar “Long-term support of refugee and displaced scientists: the power of mentorship” organized by Science in Exile explored existing mentorship programmes for at-risk, displaced, and refugee scholars and scientists. Through discussions with mentors and mentees and the hosting organizations, the aim was to identify good practices, gaps, and the benefits of mentorship. Academics in Solidarity participated in the panel.

- Olga Palinkasev Gregorian, Senior Advisor and Head of scholar support services, The Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund.
- Lisa Herzog, Professor of political philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Groningen (The Netherlands), and co-lead of the At-Risk Scholars Initiative of the Global Young Academy.
- Christina Rogers, Managing Director, Academics in Solidarity, Center for International Cooperation, Freie Universität Berlin.
This webinar was the third webinar in the Science in Exile Webinar series.
The four-part Science in Exile webinar series aimed to raise awareness of and discuss key issues and challenges faced by at-risk, displaced and refugee scientists, and to support a stronger solidarity towards affected scientists. Each of the webinars focused on a different stage of the displacement cycle. In each webinar, displaced scientists and experts in the field share their experiences and their views, specific case studies are presented, and good practices and strategies are explored.
