Freie Universität Today
The year 2007 heralded a defining moment for Freie Universität: In the German federal and state Excellence Initiative, Freie Universität was the university with the most approved funding applications and one of nine universities to gain funding approval for its institutional development strategy. In the same year, Freie Universität expanded its international activities and opened a branch office in Peking. In February 2008, a new branch office in the Indian capital New Delhi was established in cooperation with DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).
Also in 2007, Freie Universität opened Dahlem Humanities Center, which builds on the most complete range of disciplines in the humanities to be found in all of Germany. With Dahlem Research School, a comprehensive platform for excellent PhD programs was set up, creating an optimal work environment for young scholars to carry out their research projects.
