The 1990s: Julia Franck
Last year Julia Franck was the winner of the German Book Prize, a prestigious annual award for the best German-language novel. She was selected for the prize on the basis of her historical novel, Lady Midday (Die Mittagsfrau).
Franck was born in 1970 in East Berlin. In 1978 she moved with her family to the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1983 she has been living in West Berlin. Franck studied law, anthropology of the Americas, modern German literature, and philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin.
