Every year, interdisciplinary conferences and workshops are organized within the framework of the ZDS that take place either in Beijing or in Berlin. The participants are mainly scholars from the universities taking part in the ZDS cooperation, but also some others.

Up to now, the following events have been organized: workshop "Europe and China: Old and New Empires?" (Beijing 2018); workshop "Urbanization" (Beijing 2017); conference "Migration and Flight" (Beijing 2016); conference "Young and Old in China and Germany. Media Negotiations of Generational Relations and Generational Conflicts in Intercultural Comparison" (Berlin, 2014); workshop "Historical Turning Points and Upheavals after 1900" (Berlin, 2014); workshop "Taboo as Phenomenon" (Beijing, 2013); workshop "Conceptions of Man in Historical and Cultural Perspective" (Beijing, 2012); workshop "Romanticism – an Interdisciplinary Reflection" (Beijing, 2011), workshop "Rationality – an Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Investigation" (Beijing, 2010); conference "Rapprochement of the Outsiders? – Cultural Relations between Germany and China in the Interwar Years" (Berlin, 2010); conference "Emotion and Memory" (Beijing, 2009); symposium "Human Dignity in Chinese and German Understanding" (Beijing, 2009); workshop "Personality" (Beijing, 2009); workshop "Proprietorship in Germany and China in a Comparing Perspective" (Beijing, 2008); conference "Enlightenment" (Beijing, 2008); conference "From Civic Society to Civil Society" (Beijing, 2007).
