Info-Service Studium

The Info-Service Studium of Freie Universität Berlin is a cross-departmental service offered by the Student Administration and Admissions departments of Division V: Academic Affairs, the Central Office of Academic Advising and Psychological Counseling, and the International Student Mobility - Welcome Services of Division IV: International Affairs.

A central aspect is the low-threshold nature of the services offered: prospective students as well as current students quickly receive initial information from their peers at Freie Universität Berlin. In addition, our student employees participate in fairs, conduct informational events for high school classes including campus tours, visit schools, and give talks.

In spring 2005, the Info-Service Studium of Freie Universität Berlin was established as the front office of the areas "General Student Counseling" (ZESTudb), "Student Administration", and "Admission" (VA). The services of all areas combined in the Info-Service Studium were bundled. There was a strict separation of initial standard information at a front office and expert knowledge from the back office. The accessibility of contact persons was thus massively improved. Officials and academic advisers were relieved of routine inquiries (on the phone, by e-mail, in person). The opening hours of all participating institutions were harmonized in the joint front office. Subsequently, in 2007, the Mensa 2 counter was added as an additional point of contact and "reception" for requests of students, employees, prospective students, and visitors to Freie Universität Berlin. In 2009, the CM hotline, which had previously been located at ZEDAT, was successfully integrated into the "Info-Service Studium", and a new back office was added in the form of " eAS-CM".

Since 2010, there has been a cooperation with Dahlem Research School (DRS) regarding information for those interested in doctoral studies at Freie Universität. Here, too, the Info-Service Studium serves as the first point of contact, and annual training sessions are held by the DRS for the Info-Service on these issues.

Finally, at the beginning of 2011, after a lengthy planning phase, the "International Student Mobility" (IV C) area was also included in the Info-Service Studium regarding the concerns of exchange students. The front office is aimed at all exchange students coming to Freie Universität Berlin.

Currently, the front office of the Info-Service Studium processes a total of more than 200,000 requests annually.

Further synergy effects and a further improved service were achieved in 2014 through a spatial consolidation of the affiliated service areas in the Student Service Center at Iltisstr. 4. With the opening of the Info-Service Studium building, the front office for all affiliated service areas moved in here, which created a central contact point for those seeking advice in addition to the Mensa 2 counter.

Further information on the staffing concept and the documentation of inquiries can be found in the counseling yearbooks.

Students and prospective students should first contact this central service (by phone, e-mail, or in person) with any requests about one of the three institutions. The Info-Service Studium provides information to all questions concerning the organization of studies and the electronic administration system Campus Management. If inquiries cannot be conclusively answered, they will be forwarded to the responsible back office after initial clearing.
