Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies

The School for Transnational Studies is affiliated with Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 700 at Freie Universität Berlin, which is entitled “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood.” The three-year doctoral program focuses on theories and methods of social science, but it also integrates related subjects such as history, economics and business, or law. The doctoral candidates concentrate on analyzing national and transnational causes and effects of political, social, and cultural globalization, the new challenges that apply to governance in international and transnational areas and areas of limited statehood, and comparative study of regional cooperation, particularly with regard to the European Union.

The program is financed by CRC 700 and by its partner institutions, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, Hertie Foundation, and the DFG Research Training Group “The Transformative Power of Europe.”
