From Berlin to Billund: Reflecting on Teaching with LEGO® Serious Play®

We are thrilled to announce that our summer workshop “Reflecting on Teaching through LEGO® Serious Play® (LSP)”, presented by guest facilitator Carly O’Neill-Barrett (University of Leeds), has been selected for an international showcase on innovative applications of the LSP method. Only five participant showcases are chosen each year for this event, which is hosted by Inthrface and chaired by Prof. Roos, one of the founders of the method. It takes place at the LEGO® Conference Centre in Billund, Denmark.

The workshop was originally developed by Carly at her home institution and adapted to our needs for her session with us in July. Collaborating with her to bring the workshop to Freie Universität was a rewarding experience — and a reminder of how international partnerships can broaden our perspectives on teaching and learning.

In the workshop itself, students, early career academics and professors from across disciplines created LEGO® builds in a lively space to reflect on how and why we teach, and to explore fresh ways of innovating in teaching and learning.

We look forward to continuing our work with LEGO® Serious Play® as a method for reflecting on and developing teaching. DCAT will host another LSP workshop in 2026 —keeping our commitment to teaching development strong, brick by brick.

Registration for all DCAT courses in the summer semester opens on January 14, 2026.
