Bridging the Gap between Doha and Berlin

Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and Freie Universität Berlin plan to collaborate in teaching and research / Kick off workshop in the humanities

№ 031/2018 from Feb 17, 2018

Freie Universität Berlin and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies in Qatar want to cooperate in research and teaching. A memorandum of understanding, signed by the two parties, provides for student exchange as of September 2018. Students enrolled in the two institutions can spend one to two semesters at the partner institution. The goal is to establish a regular exchange program by 2019. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Prof. Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, the president of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI), and Prof. Dr. Klaus Mühlhahn, a vice president at Freie Universität Berlin. The new collaboration is being kicked off with a humanities workshop in Doha from February 18 to 20.

This cooperation was initiated and developed by Prof. Dr. Islam Dayeh (Freie Universität Berlin, Seminar for Semitic and Arabic Studies). The theme of the joint workshop in Doha is “Critical Concepts in the Humanities and Social Sciences.” It is being sponsored by the Center for International Cooperation (CIC) at Freie Universität and the DI.

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies was founded in 2014. It promotes humanities and social science research in the Arab world. It focuses on humanities, social sciences, public administration, development economics, and conflict and humanitarian studies.
