Tracing Utopia

Two-part Exhibition by Young German and Chinese Curators / Vernissage on July 6 and 7, 2017

"Tracing Utopia" is the title of a two-part exhibition curated by students at the Institute for Arts and Media Management, Freie Universität Berlin, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing. In installations, objects from the fine arts, performances, and interventions, they have staged young artistic positions on the subject of utopia. The exhibition will be presented in Schlosspark Biesdorf and in the Zentrum für Kunst und öffentlichen Raum (ZKR) as well as in the Kunststiftung Starke in Berlin-Grunewald. The openings will be on July 6 and 7, 2017. Admission is free.

Inspired by the curatorial work of the documenta in Kassel and the sculpture projects in Münster, young Chinese and German curators are opening this exhibition with multiperspective approaches to utopian thinking in regard to space, time, and issue of the present.

The participating artists include: Dominik Annies, Chen Baiyi, Janosch Becker, Florian Birk, Juan Blanco, Felipe Duarte, Shi Fu, Philipp Hainke, Fangling Huang, Qin Lingsen, Luo Qiang, Li Quing, Ana Esteve Reig, Natalia Irina Roman, Liu Shihao, André Stache, Deo Gisa Brian Senyondo, Annika Stoll, Daniel Theis, Sabine Maria Voltz, Victoria Wald, Tao Xia, Yan Xiang, and Ligeng Zhang.

The exhibition was curated by: Dr. Steffen Damm (Berlin) and Wang Wenting (Beijing); Jerome Araki (Beijing), Malte Bündgen (Wien/Berlin), Angelika Diegel (Bayreuth/Berlin), Juan David Giraldo (Bogota/Berlin), Lisa Herzog (Zürich/Berlin), Fangling Huang (Shanghai), Chen Jingxuan (Beijing), Milena Krmek (München/Berlin), Maureen Noe (Kassel/Berlin), and Xia Tao (Kassel/Beijing).

The exhibition is a project of the Institute for Arts and Media Management, Freie Universität Berlin, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing, in cooperation with the Zentrum für Kunst und Öffentlichen Raum (ZKR), Berlin, the Stiftung Starke, Berlin, and the Stadtmuseum Kassel. It is sponsored by the Kasseler Sparkasse and Stromnetz Berlin.
