The cooperation partners of the new building – Freie Universität represented by its Director of Administration and Finance, Dr.-Ing. Andrea Bör, and IGB, represented by the managing director of the Forschungsverbund Berlin, Dr. Manuela Urban – will open the exhibition. All of the other competing architects who received some form of recognition for their submissions will also be present. The event is open to the general public.

By constructing the biodiversity science building together, Freie Universität Berlin and the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries aim to demonstrate how productive cooperation between university and non-university research facilities in Berlin can be. Research and teaching in an important field for the future such as biodiversity can be strengthened and further developed together in a building that not only will serve environmental research, but also meets strict guidelines for sustainable construction.

In order to achieve the desired high quality level "Gold" according to the assessment system for sustainable construction of federal buildings in Germany (BNB) in the laboratory building module, the submitted design for the planned building had to be convincing both in terms of urban development and design, as well as in fulfilling the principles of energy optimization and sustainable construction. It is intended to embody the theme of sustainability as an idea for the future, both scientifically and through its architecture.

Exhibition:
The exhibition of the submissions to the architectural completion will be on display in the foyer of the Institute of Plant Physiology and Microbiology, Freie Universität Berlin, Königin-Luise-Straße 12–14, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. working days from May 30 through June 13, 2017.
