New Term of International Summer and Winter University FUBiS at Freie Universität Berlin in January 2017

115 Participants from 22 Countries

№ 011/2017 from Jan 13, 2017

Roughly 115 students from 22 countries are participating in the winter term of the International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin, which is being held for the 11th time. During the three-week program they take German language courses and other subjects. Most of the students are from Latin America, the United States, China, and South Korea. The term will run through January 26.

The students participating in FUBiS can choose courses from among various subjects taught in English and Spanish, as well as German language classes. There are seminars dealing with the history and policies of the European Union and various current topics at the interfaces between law, society, and politics. For the first time FUBiS is offering a course on the philosophical, anthropological, and sociological aspects of soccer. The seminar being taught in Spanish is addressing the interweaving of places, memorial cultures, and identities in Latin America and Europe.

Students can earn internationally recognized credits for all the FUBiS courses. In addition to the classes held on the Lankwitz campus of Freie Universität, there are field trips to important sites in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, including tours of the government district in Berlin and tours of Potsdam.

The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and in 2007 a winter term was added. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad. During 2016 a total of 652 international students came to Freie Universität Berlin through FUBiS.
