The proportion was reportedly one fifth, significantly higher than the national average for all German universities (11.5 percent). The share of international students at Freie Universität who completed their secondary schooling outside the German school system (Bildungsausländer) amounted to 17 percent, more than twice as high as that for German universities on average (8.4 percent). The ratio among doctoral students at Freie Universität was just under 30 percent, significantly higher than the proportion nationwide (21.7 percent).
