New Agreement Facilitates USA Semester Abroad for Freie Universität Bachelor Students

Shorter Study Periods Abroad Intended to Ease Planning

№ 8/2010 from Jan 12, 2010

Beginning with the winter semester 2011/12, Freie Universität Berlin is offering its students in bachelor degree programs the chance of studying exempt from tuition fees for one semester at the University of California. These opportunities are provided in addition to the existing program for a stay of one academic year abroad. By introducing this shorter program, Freie Universität is reacting to calls from many students in bachelor programs who are unable to take a year-long stay within their prescribed period of study.

The short stay program allows students to spend September to March at the University of California, a period equivalent to two academic quarters in the United States or one semester in the German system. For September to March 2011/12, the program is offering 25 places on University of California campuses at Davis (UCD), Irvine (UCI), Los Angeles (UCLA), Riverside (UCR), Santa Barbara (UCSB), Santa Cruz (UCSC), and San Diego (UCSD).

More details will be available from the Center for International Student Exchange/Akademisches Auslandsamt as of March, 2010. The application period ends on November 4, 2010.
