Seeking Cosmopolitanism

Professor Galin Tihanov to Speak December 17 at Freie Universität on the History and Current Importance of Global Citizenship

What is cosmopolitanism today?  Professor Galin Tihanov will address this issue in a public lecture on Thursday, December 17, at Freie Universität. Tihanov, a professor of comparative literature and intellectual history at the University of Manchester, is currently a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. The lecture will be given in English. There is no charge.

Tihanov's lecture on "Cosmopolitanism in the Landscape of Modernity" is the first in a series of lectures at the Center for Area Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. The theme of the series is "Roots and Routes: On the Dynamics of Regional Arrangements." The subsequent lectures of the series will be given by other eminent scholars who deal with changes in geographically and culturally defined spaces and with the resulting transregional and transcultural dynamics.
