International Partner Universities of Freie Universität Berlin

Freie Universität maintains wide-ranging international contacts to other universities and organizations that provide key impulses for research and teaching. In the 1950s, Freie Universität had already established partnerships with leading American universities such as Stanford, Princeton, and Columbia, as well as with Western European universities.

First contacts with universities in Eastern Europe were made in the 1970s. In particular during the 1990s, links were extended to include growing numbers of institutions in North America, Eastern Europe, and East Asia. Today, Freie Universität has more than 200 bilateral partnerships worldwide and more than 400 university partnerships within the Erasmus+ mobility network (Europe and worldwide). The university's various departments and research institutes themselves have over 75 partner agreements with other institutions. The bilateral partnerships listed below do not necessarily implicate a student exchange as well.
