What does "Wohngemeinschaft" (short WG) mean?

The German word “Wohngemeinschaft” (WG for short) refers to a living arrangement in which several tenants share an apartment. Every tenant has his own room, common rooms such as the bathroom, kitchen and living room (if existing) are shared. Sometimes there are WG options in the dormitories, too, so that there is not necessarily a difference between the two.

WGs are a great way to make friends, especially when you are in a foreign country. The tenants of a WG are responsible for the cleanliness of all common areas themselves. Please note that we cannot always fulfil requests for same-sex WGs (women only or men only).
