After having been used for over 50 years, the Henry Ford Building was completely renovated from 2005 to 2007. The restoration was carried out in accordance with historical preservation while also taking into account up-to-date requirements for structural fire protection and the energy efficiency of technical equipment. In addition, subsequent installations that disturbed the character of the original architecture were removed.

Part of the renovation was completed during normal operation, so it had to be done in phases. Moreover, a permanent exhibition called "Future from the Very Beginning" on the history of Freie Universität was installed in the balcony on the second floor. The renovation and reconstruction of the Henry Ford Building was planned and supervised by the Construction Planning Office of Freie Universität.

With the latest media technology and new functionalities, the Henry Ford Building has now also become attractive as a conference center.
