German-Egyptian Funding Programs

During the German-Egyptian Year of Science and Technology in 2007 the Egyptian Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research and the German Academic Exchange Service established four main funding instruments for academic and scientific exchange between both countries:

Programs to fund a Master's, PhD or postdoctoral in Berlin

GERLS (German Egyptian Research Long-Term Scholarship)

The program is design for Egyptian university members and researchers who desire to complete or obtain their PHD in one of the German Universities. It comprises a full PhD, a Channel and a specialization program. 

GERSS (German Egyptian Research Short-Term Scholarship)

The target groups of this program are Egyptian researchers enrolled in MSc, PhD programs and young Post Doctoral candidates who whish to complete their study and research with a three to six months stay at a  German university. 

Programs to promote joint research projects

GERF (German-Egyptian Research Fund)

The Fund is encouraging German-Egyptian research teams to submit joint applications for all areas of science and technology. Grants can reach a maximum of up to 200,000 € per project. The duration of a project is up to a maximum of 24 months. The program is jointly announced by the International Office of the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Egyptian Science and Technology Development Fund

GE-SEED (German Egyptian Mobility Program for Scientific Exchange and Excellence Development)

GE-SEED (formerly known as GESP) is a fund that supports the exchange of scientific visits between Egyptian and German research teams with special emphasis on young scientists (Master and PhD students) and within the framework of a jointly submitted research project of a period up to two years.
