The Berlin Mathematics Research Center MATH+ sets out to advance mathematics itself and its interdisciplinary power with the aim of achieving progress on grand challenges in a wide variety of application fields.
MATH+ will start with nine major units for project-oriented research: four Application Areas and five Emerging Fields. In both, mathematicians from a wide range of different disciplines collaborate – with each other and with leading researchers from diverse application fields as well as representatives from industry. In the frame of the Cluster of Excellence, MATH+ project EF4-2 "Understanding tipping and other dynamical transitions in systems containing human agents" is looking for a research assistant.
This project concerns mathematical models of complex social processes that contain agent-based components for describing human behavior and decisions and that exhibit different metastable dynamical regimes. It aims at the theoretical development of probabilistic mathematical methods for understanding the critical dynamics of transitions between these regimes (so-called tipping phenomena) and at the application of these approaches to the above models of variable complexity.
Diploma or Master of Science in Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science
- Solid knowledge from the following fields: agent-based modelling and simulation, numerical analysis, probability theory / stochastic processes
- Additional knowledge from data analysis is advantageous
- Good knowledge of a programming language used in scientific computing (Matlab, Python, Julia)
- Excellent written and oral English
