The Berlin Mathematics Research Center MATH+ sets out to advance mathematics itself and its interdisciplinary power with the aim of achieving progress on grand challenges in a wide variety of application fields.
MATH+ will start with nine major units for project-oriented research: four Application Areas and five Emerging Fields. In both, mathematicians from a wide range of different disciplines collaborate – with each other and with leading researchers from diverse application fields as well as representatives from industry. In the frame of the Cluster of Excellence MATH+ project AA1-2 “Learning Transition Manifolds and Effective Dynamics of Biomolecules” is looking for a research assistant.
The transition pathways underlying molecular function are essentially supported by a rather low dimensional manifold. Recent pioneering results characterize such transition manifolds through stochastic processes and show how to find them by embedding techniques. The project aims at theoretical and algorithmic development for learning transition manifolds from data, by linking novel ideas from stochastic processes, random matrix factorization, compressed sensing, and kernel methods to available embedding results.
Diploma or Master of Science in Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science
- Solid knowledge from the following fields: probability theory / stochastic processes, functional analysis, numerical analysis
- Additional knowledge from the following field is advantageous: differential geometry, data analysis
- Good knowledge of a programming language used in scientific computing (Matlab, Python, Julia)
- Excellent written and oral English
