The successful applicant will cover the area named above in research and teaching in field.
Appointment requirements are governed byArticle 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerlHG).
Applicants should hold a university degree and state certification in elementary school teaching with a focus on general studies (Sachunterricht), as well as a doctorate in general studies (Sachunterricht) and general studies teaching methods (Didaktik des Sachunterrichts). They should also have practical experience in elementary and/or secondary schools (fifth/sixth year of school) according to Article 100.3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act. Furthermore, applicants should have relevant experience in teaching general studies at the university level and demonstrate a history of excellent research work, including publications, on the subject of general studies and general studies teaching methods, ideally within an international context. They should also have experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects.
Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
The new professor will play an important role in refining innovative university teaching and learning concepts – especially teaching and learning lab formats – working on the learning workshop and collaborations with schools, as well as developing digitalized teaching, learning, and examination formats. They will also contribute to the area of practical computer science education and have experience in individualized, adaptive, and cooperative learning formats in elementary school classes. They should also be prepared to participate in the work of the joint research projects based in the department as well as those related to the area of general studies (e.g., K2Teach, LemaS). The scope of the professorship also includes working closely with the Dahlem School of Education in addition to other departments and divisions that offer teacher training programs at Freie Universität Berlin. The new professor will also be expected to address gender and diversity issues in their research and teaching.
