2025’s Europaeum Winter School will take place from 4–7 February at the Complutense University of Madrid. It explores the implications of the European Green Deal, launched in 2019, and its implications on future policy making. The EU has made progress in several areas, setting binding targets for reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. However, implementation now faces several challenges, including concerns about the pace and scale of proposed changes from member states, recent changes to the composition of the European Parliament, economic competitiveness, especially in energy-intensive industries, and the problem of ensuring a “just transition” that does not disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.
