Joint Seed Funding Freie Universität Berlin / Hebrew University of Jerusalem
With the goal of facilitating research cooperation in the framework of a strategic partnership, Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) have established a joint seed funding scheme to enable FUB and HUJI faculty and researchers to identify complementary strengths, facilitate the use of synergies, and promote the development of outstanding future research and teaching projects.

Joint Seed Funding Research 2025
Academic Fields: the 2025 call is open to collaboration of HUJI and FUB scientists in all fields. Applications can be either focused on one discipline or be of an interdisciplinary nature.
Eligibility: Applications can be submitted jointly by tenured and tenure track faculty at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and (Junior) professors, research group leaders or equivalent at Freie Universität Berlin. Previous grant recipients are not encouraged to apply.
Funding: The joint funding scheme aims at supporting first steps of research collaboration (typically 5.000 - 10.000 EUR per proposal).
Activities: Possible formats of cooperation, further details and selection criteria are listed in the call for applications.
Location: Please note that joint events in Jerusalem and visits to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem by FUB staff are currently not possible due to the actice travel warning of the German Foreign Ministry. We therefore recommend that joint events take place in Berlin as long as the travel warning is in place.
Participants: Projects should ideally include both senior and junior faculty / researchers (doctoral researchers or PostDocs) at FUB and HUJI. Researchers from Germany's non-university research institutions may participate if they cover all related costs.

Joint Seed Funding Online Courses
Relaunched in 2021 through the German-Israeli Virtual Campus (GIVCA) initiative, the joint online courses aim to foster the development of joint digital and blended learning, teaching and mobility formats for the benefit of students at both FUB and HUJI.
The next call is planned for December 2024 with a deadline in January 2025.
Eligibility: tenured and tenure track faculty. Previous grant recipients are not encouraged to apply.
