Hello everyone!

My name is Ailan, and I am an undergraduate student studying psychology at Freie Universität. Berlin born and raised, I ultimately decided to go to university here, because FU offered one of the best psychology programs in the country. In school, I took psychology classes since 10th grade and developed the wish to pursue the subject further on a scientific level. At FU I enjoyed the great teaching and research environment of the psychology department, made great friends, and even gained research experience as a research assistant.

Like many students I wanted to go abroad after high school and experience life in another country. At FU I fulfilled this long dream of mine with an exchange semester at UC Berkeley. The student life in the US has truly been an amazing experience; I skipped a cold winter in Berlin and went on road trips through California. After a great year abroad, I am now back in Berlin to take math and computer science classes in preparation for my master’s degree.

Besides studying, I have diverse hobbies: I love to discover new cities, especially museums and botanical gardens, enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and yoga, and have recently started to refresh my French language skills.

At FU I loved that I had the freedom to do all these things and truly develop personally, academically, and professionally throughout my studies. As a student ambassador, I hope to share some of my experiences and to help you have an amazing time too.
