The United Nations and European Union Documentation Center has one of the most extensive collections of UN and EU primary literature in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
The collection includes the United Nations' publications from 1956 onwards and the European Union's Working Papers from 1963 onwards as well as the UN and EU printed monographic publications and periodicals. In addition, the Documentation Center holds specialized literature on the institutions.
Furthermore, you will find a range of bibliographies, legal texts and selected secondary literature about the United Nations and the European Union, as well as an adequate amount of working places in the reference library of the documentation center.
Nowadays, many of the documents and working papers of both the United Nations and the European Union are also accessible online, some of those - mainly recent ones - even exclusively online. These can mainly be downloaded for free on the organizations' websites.
All documents and publications available at the Documentation Center can be found and accessed through the library portal Primo; they can be taken out on loan, read at the library or online.
In order to provide users access to sources beyond the free databases containing UN and EU documents and publications, the Documentation Center licenses a number of relevant subject databases.
The changes of format in our nearly complete collection of English-language UN documents can be correlated with the years of publication as follows:
- 1946 to 1955: complete documentation (on microfiche, to be used at the library)
- 1956 to 1964: Official Records only
- 1965 to 2006: complete documentation (in print)
- From 2007 on, UN documents, for the most part, are freely accessible online within the Official Document System of the United Nations (ODS).
