The biggest sponsor of the Philological Library are the Friends of the Library (“Förderkreis Philologische Bibliothek e.V.”). This student initiative was founded in 1996, for the then independent library of the "Institute for German and Dutch Philology", which is now integrated into the Philological Library.
The Friends of the Library exists to promote and give financial support to the budget for new acquisitions. Thanks to this support over 200,000 Euros have been made available to the library to date during the last 20 years.
The main source of income for the Friends is the "Book Bazaar", run by students on a volunteer basis. Books that have been donated from publishing houses, organizations and private persons are sold here, just like in an old book shop. You may find about 20,000 volumes from all areas: Textbooks, illustrated books, novels, mystery novels - you'll find everything here.
We are always looking for new members and volunteers: if you are interested in getting involved come on by and introduce yourself.
